Examination of attachment styles and personality factors as predictors of divorce in normal and divorce applicant couples in Yazd, Iran

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this Research was examination of attachment styles and personality factors as predictors of divorce in normal and divorce applicant Couples in Yazd.
Methods: Themethod of this research was correlation. The samples include 53 normal couples and 45 divorce applicant couples (total: 196 people). The divorced samples were selected by available sampling method from a group of divorce applicants and Court Clients, and a random multistage sampling method was used to select normal group. All sample couples were tested by close- relationship experience questionnaire (for testing attachment styles), NEO personality questionnaire and divorce potentially inventory. In spite of descriptive statistical methods, the discriminate analysis method was applied to analyze the data in this research.
Findings: The Findings of the research confirmed hypothesis and demonstrated based on attachment styles and personality properties. It can predict the failure and success in marital relationship.
Conclusion: This research can also be applied in clinical and counseling environment to help problematic cupules and couples on the threshold of marriage.
