The Effectiveness of Family-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy on Suicidal Ideation, Depression Signs, Family Cohesion and Adaptability of Suicide Attempters

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of present study was the effectiveness of Family-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy on suicidal ideation, depression signs, family cohesion and adaptability of suicide attempters in Razi Hospital of Ahvaz. Six suicide attempter's male were selected using purposeful sampling.
Methods: Multiple baseline experimental single case study was used as the method of the present study. The Family-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy was carried out in three phase of baseline, intervention and follow-up and participants completed The Suicidal Ideation Scale (SIS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-13) and Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (FACES-2).Data analyzed with visuals inspection, reliable change index (RCI) strategies and improvement percentage.
Findings: Family-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy had a significant effect in reducing suicidal ideation, depression signs and increasing family cohesion and Solution-Focused Therapy had only a significant effect on the reduction of suicidal ideation.
Conclusion: Results showed that both these therapies had positive efficient on target, but Family-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy was more successful.
