The Comparison between Effectiveness of Personal Constructs Analysis Model and Emotionally-Focused Therapy on Marital Satisfaction

Abstract

Purpose The aimof thisstudy isto compare the effectivenessof personalconstructanalysismodelandtheemotion-focusedtherapy on marital satisfaction.
Method: The quasi-experimental designofpre-test, post-test andfollow up was used. The populationconsists of allcouplesof conflictingmaritalcounselingcentersin Tehranfrom 91 to 92yearswhoreferred toTehranProvince. Participantswererandomly assigned intwogroups of 15couples. Treatmentgroupsreceivedtreatmentfor 8 and12weekly sessions. Enrich Marital Satisfaction QuestionnaireShort Form47questionnairecollected datawere analyzedusinganalysis ofvariance.
Findings: The resultsshowed thatthe treatment ofthe personalconstructofmarital satisfactionwas more effectivethanemotion-focusedtherapyafter3monthsfollow-up, but no differenceswere foundbetween thetwo groups.In the dimension of personality, emotion-focusedtherapy was more effective than Personal Constructs Analysis Model, and in the dimension of communication, Personal Constructs Analysis Model was more effective.
Conclusion:Thisstudyshowsthatpersonalconstructanalysismodelcanbe usedasanalternativeinterventioninmaritaldistress.
