The effectiveness of the psychosocial empowerment training program on acceptance and action, family functioning, and psychological resilience of families with individuals with bipolar disorder

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to teach psychosocial empowerment, acceptance and action, family functioning, psychological flexibility, bipolar disorder. This study is an applied study in terms of its purpose, and considering the method of implementation of this quasi-experimental study, it was a pre-test-post-test with a control group. The statistical population of this study was all families with a person with bipolar disorder in Marivan who referred to rehabilitation institutions in Marivan between October 1403 and February 1403. Among the families with a person with bipolar disorder in Marivan, 24 people were selected statistically using a random selection method (12 people in the experimental group and 12 people in the control group). The data collection tools were the Family Functioning Scale (FAD), the Psychological Flexibility Questionnaire, and the Psychosocial Empowerment Training Package based on Choice Theory. The results of the findings showed that the post-test significance level of the dependent variables of the family function variable and the psychological flexibility variable was less than the error level of 0.05, which means that the contrast between the groups is significant. Also, considering that the F value obtained in the family function variable (67.81) is greater than the F value obtained in psychological flexibility, then the psychosocial empowerment training based on the theory of acceptance had the greatest impact on family performance.
