Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes is recognized as one of the most difficult and serious chronic conditions, leading to numerous physical and psychological complications for individuals affected by the disease. Objectives: This study aimed to explore the efficacy of integrated meta-diagnostic therapy on health-related quality of life and Health Locus of Control for Couples with Type 2 diabetes experiencing sexual dysfunction. Methods: The study utilized an experimental research method employing a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The participants included patients with Type 2 diabetes and sexual dysfunction who visited the Persian diabetes clinic in Mashhad in 2024. The sample of 30 individuals was chosen through targeted non-random sampling and divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received integrated meta-diagnostic treatment over 12 sessions lasting 60 minutes each, while the control group was placed on a waiting list. Data was collected using the Weber (1992) and Walston et al (1978) Health Locus of Control health-related quality of life tests during both pre-test and post-test phases. The data was analyzed using the Multivariate analysis of covariance test in SPSS 24 software. Results: The results indicated that, after accounting for the pre-test effects, a notable disparity emerged in the average post-test scores of the two-test and control groups concerning variables such as health-related quality of life and Health Locus of Control among Couples dealing with Type 2 diabetes and experiencing sexual dysfunction (p<0.01). Conclusion: Integrated meta-diagnostic therapy enhances health-related quality of life and Health Locus of Control for Couples dealing with Type 2 diabetes and sexual dysfunction.
