The Effect of The Premarital Counseling Educations on Relational Beliefs, Self-efficacy, and Life Meaning

Pre-marital education is one of the main priorities in programs to prevent individual and family abnormalities, reduce divorce rates and increase marital satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the Premarital Counseling educations on relational beliefs, self-efficacy, and life meaning in nursing students. The research method was semi-experimental with pre-test and post-test design with the control group. The statistical population was nursing students of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in the 2017-2018 academic year included 560 people who were undergoing the undergraduate program. The subjects were 40 people who were selected by random sampling among the students who were applying for these courses and the experimental and control groups were assigned to two groups of 20 people. The experimental group participated in six 60-minute pre-marriage and education sessions according to Angle and Wright method, and the control group did not receive any training. The data was collected using the psychometric scales relational beliefs (Eielson & Epstein, 1982 ), self-efficacy (Schwarzer & Jerusalem, 1995), and life meaning (Steger et al., 2006). To analyze the data in descriptive statistics (frequency distribution, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics, t-test and covariance analysis were used. Multivariate analysis of covariance analysis showed that Pre-marital education is on relational beliefs has a significant negative effect (p<0.001). Multivariate analysis of covariance analysis showed that Pre-marital education is on self-efficacy and life meaning has a significant positive effect (p<0.001). Therefore, it can be said that the use of this method of Pre-marital education and counseling on relational beliefs, self-efficacy, and life meaning has been effective.
