Effectiveness of cognitive- behavioral group therapy along with family training on components associated with suicide in girls attempted to suicide

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral group therapy along whit family education on components related with suicide among girls' suicide attempters. The design of this study was quasi-experimental with pretest, posttest, and control groups. Eighteen girls subsequent to primary clinical assessment and obtaining study requirements, in accessible method selected and voluntarily assigned to either experimental (n=8) or a wait list control group (n=10). The experimental group received 12-weekly cognitive-behavioral group therapy along family education sessions. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II), Beck Suicidal Ideation Inventory (BSII), and Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) were used as the outcome measures. All subjects completed measures at pretest; posttest and 2-months follow up periods. Data analyzed with analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The results showed that cognitive-behavioral group therapy along whit family education has significant effect on reducing of depression, suicidal ideation, and negative cognitive emotion regulation strategies, but this intervention was not effective on the reduction of hopelessness. Treatment gains remained over 3 month's follow-up period. Cognitive behavioral group therapy along with family education could implemented as effective group treatment for girls with suicidal ideations.
