So this study aims at comparing the efficacy of Emotional Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT), Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy (CBCT), and Cognitive Behavior Emotional Couple Therapy (CBECT) through marital satisfaction of spouses and women's depression.
Methods: this study was a quasi-experimental research with pretest-posttest-follow up design, and the experimental trend of double repeated measures analysis was used along with random replacement. The sample population was chosen out of couples referring to consulting centers of Hamadan, with the diagnosis of simultaneous depression and marital dissatisfaction. 67coupleswereeligible to participate in the research, among whom, 45 couples were chosen, and divided into three groups of couple therapy randomly. The couples in each of three intervention groups participated in 15 weekly sessions. The tools of research included demographic questionnaire, Beck's depression Scale and Enrich marital satisfaction. To record the variation of the depression scores and marital satisfaction, the participants fill out them in pretest, in 15 therapeutic sessions in session 7, session 11, session15)post-test( one month later (first follow up( and three months after intervention (second follow up) again.
Findings: The results of applying variance analysis with double repeated measures analysis showed that CBCT, EFCT, and CBECT approach were influential in reducing depression score and in increasing marital satisfaction. EFCT was more effective than CBCT in follow up score for depression and marital satisfaction. CBECT was better than other methods both in therapeutic period and follow up score for depression and marital satisfaction.
Conclusion: For correcting couple’s interaction patterns, Cognitive- Behavior-Emotional Couple Therapy focuses on three different aspects including cognition, behavior and emotion. However, in cognitive-behavioral couple therapy less focus is on emotion and in emotionally focused couple therapy, beliefs and cognition is not the main concern. So this approach can enhance couple’s satisfaction and reduce women’s depression in the long term.
