The Study of The Efficiency of Acceptance and Commitment-Based Therapy on the Quality of Infertile Women’s Life

Abstract

Purpose: Infertility affects various aspects of an individual's life. Infertility may be said, is one of the most stressful events in a person's life. The aim of the study is to investigate the effectiveness of therapy based on commitment and acceptance on the quality of life of infertile women who referred to the infertility clinics in Shiraz.
Method: Present study was experimental type with pre-test, post-test and control groups. Samples of the study were 29 infertile couples which were chosen in 2 experiment groups (15 participants) and control group (14 participants). Acceptance and commitment therapy (act) sessions were set up for the experiment group and the control group did receive no interference and remained in the waiting list.
Findings: Results of multivariate analysis of variance showed that commitment and acceptance therapy is effective on enhancement of the quality of life and components of general health, physical role, social functioning, physical pain, vitality, mental health (P<0.001).
Conclusion: Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that commitment and acceptance therapy improves quality of life in infertile couples and according to high rates of infertility; this therapy can be applied to enhance quality of life for this group.
