Purpose: One important model for examining family functioning is family functioning McMaster model; the present study aims to determine the relationship between family functioning on the basis of this model, and personality disorders in students.
Methods: This study was a descriptive correlative one. The study sample included 300 students from Razi University in Kermanshah which were selected using stratified random sampling. To gather data, Millon Personality questionnaire and family functioning questionnaire were used.
Findings: Results showed that there is a negative and significant relationship between all the subscales of family functioning and family (relationship, role playing, emotional intercourse, problem solving, emotional accompaniment, behavioral control and overall performance), with personality disorders.
Conclusion: According to the results, it can be said mental therapists and counselors who can benefit from family therapy for the treatment of personality disorders, must emphasis on the improvement of family functions.
