Background and Aim: The purpose of the present research was to validate the Differentiation of Self Inventory for measuring differentiation of self in men and women participating in family teaching course at Sanandaj middle schools. Methods: The study is of correlation sort (the factor analysis being of tendentious oblimin rotation sort). 512 subjects (women and men) were randomly selected from among the participants of Family Teaching Course in Sanandaj middle schools in 2011. The participants completed the Differentiation of Self Inventory (DSI-2) and Criterion Background and Aim: The purpose of the present research was to validate the Differentiation of Self Inventory for measuring differentiation of self in men and women participating in family teaching course at Sanandaj middle schools. Methods: The study is of correlation sort (the factor analysis being of tendentious oblimin rotation sort). 512 subjects (women and men) were randomly selected from among the participants of Family Teaching Course in Sanandaj middle schools in 2011. The participants completed the Differentiation of Self Inventory (DSI-2) and Criterion questionnaires. Data was analysed via factor analysis of tendentious oblimin rotation and confirmatory factor analysis. Results: Factor analysis via tendentious oblimin rotation sort indicated that four factors, which were confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. Data were indicative of a satisfactory level for the reliability coefficients of Coranbach, Alpha and Split-half (89% and 83%) of the Differentiation of Self Inventory and extracted factors. The discriminating and convergent validity of the questionnaire was examined by measurement tools for positive and negative effect, self- confidence and SCL-90-R(Anxiety and Interpersonal Sensitivity) and the correlation results for the five criteria are sequentially as follow: 38%, -41%, 39%, -42%, and -36% which are significant at ( P<0001). The MANOVA and T test were showed; there were no significant differences between male and female for factors and age groups with respect to Differentiation of Self. Conclusion: Results of factor analysis are consistent with prior findings. Differentiation of Self Inventory can be used in research and family settings and in screening the normal and none normal familiesquestionnaires.
